Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the ACTH(4–10) fragment, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that confers resistance to peptidase cleavage. It is supplied as a reference compound for in vitro study of neurotrophic and monoaminergic signalling, and ships as a white lyophilized powder.
Presentation and storage
Supplied lyophilized in a sealed vial. Store the sealed vial at −20 °C for long-term storage; refrigeration at 2–8 °C is adequate over shorter periods. Keep away from light and moisture.
Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening, so atmospheric moisture does not condense onto the cake.
Reconstitution
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water. Direct the stream down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, then let it stand and swirl gently — do not shake, as agitation can denature the peptide.
